Shadyside’s Maser Galleries is hosting a special exhibition by internationally renowned artist Hessam Abrishami, Oct. 24 through Nov. 8. It has been said that Abrishami’s art is a creative exploration of the essence of love and romance. Original paintings, limited edition canvases, and sculptures are the focus of the show. For the dual opening receptions—Fri. Oct. 24 from 6 – 9 p.m., and Sat. Oct 25 from noon – 3 p.m., both open to the public—Maser Galleries arranged for Abrishami himself to be present, speaking about the creation of certain works and even creating a piece to show his artistic technique.  “We are so honored and excited to welcome Hessam back to Pittsburgh and our gallery,” said Maser Galleries’ co-owner Brenda Maser. “His last show here in 2008 was a great success, and we are thrilled to be able to give Pittsburgh’s art lovers the chance to meet Hessam and learn more about his work and techniques firsthand.”

Arbrishami was born in Iran—one of eight children—where his love for painting was nurtured by an outstanding high school teacher and he took top honors in several national student-artist awards. It was then on to study in Perugia, Italy, as he completed his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti “Pietro Vanucci.” Abrishami then moved to Los Angeles, where he still resides.

He’s a versatile and talented artist, creating in various media including paintings, sculptures, inks, sketches, and prints. His works hang in some of the world’s best museums and galleries. The French press has called Hessam’s artwork a “statement in the fluidity of human figures…with tension between each figure, a kinship that provokes the viewer to seek reasons for such a relationship.” Abrishami said he has a positive outlook on life and believes in the goodness of people; these beliefs combine with his skills to produce joyful and colorful works. Books about the artist and his art have been published and he also has done cover illustrations for textbooks, including a line titled “Sociology: The Essentials.” Further, Abrishami has offered to sign any artworks purchased during the Oct. 24-25 opening events. Maser Galleries is one of Pittsburgh’s top art galleries and is owned and curated by Brenda and Ron “Lefty” Maser. 5427 Walnut St., Shadyside.
