1) Pittsburgh’s National Aviary hosts its “hottest” party of the year—the 15th annual Night in the Tropics. The nation’s “only independent, indoor, nonprofit zoo dedicated exclusively to birds” invites you to don your snazziest tropical or casual dress as you enjoy live entertainment by hula and fire dancers from Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic. Attendees will also partake in food and drink from dozens of local favorite restaurants, breweries, and bakeries. Dance under the night sky to Latin beats with DJ 007 and live music by The Lava Game. The Aviary is one of Pittsburgh’s oft-unsung gems, and proceeds from the party will, of course, benefit the stars of the show—the birds themselves (whom, by the way, guests may interact with up close). Food and drink sponsors include Atria’s Restaurant & Tavern, Ditka’s, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Juniper Grill, Wigle Whiskey, and many more. 7 – 11 p.m. (6 p.m. VIP ticket.) 700 Arch St., North Shore. (EC, RH)

2) Many great entertainers have suffered from severe depression, some unfortunately have even taken their own lives. Two come to mind who have done so in recent years. One being the multi-talented actor and comedian Robin Williams; another is Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden. Tragedies such as these occur in Pittsburgh too. One such instance is the lead singer of Pittsburgh heavy metal band The Whisky Rebellion, Garret Sinagra who killed himself in 2015. Growing out of the grief of his passing his longtime girlfriend, Caroline Lehman wanted to do something to honor him and help others. Lehman joined up with Sinagra’s former bandmates in Whiskey Rebellion for their Suicide Rebellion fundraiser at Spirit in Lawrenceville. Proceeds will help more research into the medical disease, depression. Funds raised will go to research by Lisa Pan, UPMC researcher and psychiatrist. Matt Light will be the master of ceremonies. Enjoy some great rock music and help a worthy cause! 9 p.m. 342 51st St.,
