Captial Grille Excels in Downtown; moe. to Jam at Mr. Smalls (Tues., 9/27/16)

1) The Capital Grille—arguably the most upscale of upscale American steakhouses. And with locations in 20 states and the District of Columbia, it’s also one of the most expansive. Pittsburgh’s location is special for a myriad of reasons: Its downtown setting. The opulent marquee over Fifth Avenue. Executive Chef Donato Coluccio, who ensures, for instance, that all steaks dry-age for more than 18 days before in-house butchers hand-carve them to perfection. Fresh seafood and a huge wine selection are also popular as is the restaurant’s African mahogany interior. The Capital Grille also offers private dining, valet parking, and a lounge. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. Sunday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. 301 Fifth Ave., Downtown. (CM)

2) Feel the groove with Buffalo, New York jam band moe. at Mr. Smalls. The quintet has played Woodstock ’99, opened for the Allman Brothers Band and The Who, and headlined Radio City Music Hall on New Year’s Eve. With such an impressive tour history, moe. has gained a faithful following of moe.rons (their word) since the band’s 1989 formation. They are prolific in the studio, too, with 24 albums released. The newest is 2014’s No Guts, No Glory—what was supposed to be an acoustic album turned hard rock thanks to an assist from hip-hop producer Dave Aron. One can hear the album’s evolution in songs like “Silver Sun.” Pulling from rock, blues, jazz, and the fun of playing music, the band seems to enjoy the performances as much as their audiences. With many songs like “Rebubula” lasting over 10 minutes, you won’t want to forget your dancing shoes for this performance. 8 p.m. 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale. (EC/CM)

3 )Do you want to go see the battlin’ Buccos play our division rival Chicago Cubs but your dog is giving you the “we don’t spend enough time together” look. Don’t fret the Pirates got you covered with Pup Night, aka bring your dog to the pirate game night. A portion of the proceeds benefit local animal organizations. 7:05 p.m. PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.
