Cher Dazzles the Consol; Shelby Comin Entertains at Improv (CPs Wed., 4/2/2014)

1) She doesn’t actually need an introduction, does she? The one, only, and incomparable Cher graces Pittsburgh as part of her Dressed to Kill tour at the Consol Energy Center. Winner of Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards alike, the Goddess of Pop has enjoyed the view from the top since the 1960s. Her famous “Snap out of it” line from Moonstruck has become part of pop culture, while her music continues to inspire audiences around the world. If impersonation is the highest form of flattery, the Hollywood icon has her pick of the litter with Cher impersonators and tribute singers. Tonight, we Pittsburghers get the real deal. We can’t “Turn Back Time,” even if we wanted to, so get those tickets before it’s too late. Special guests are Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. 7:30 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown.

2) Up and coming local comic Shelby Comin tickles your funny bone at the Pittsburgh Improv as part of the Tainted performance. You may have seen her at open mic nights around the area, but tonight she headlines a show hosted by Billy Pilgrim. Leaving no topic untapped, Comin faces taboos head on, from dirty jokes to the humor in our everyday lives. With Jacquea Mae and DJ Vex backing her up, this laugh-inducing night is yours for the taking. 8 p.m. 166 E. Bridge St., Homestead.

3) Inject some soul into your daily routine with Billy Price at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. A Pittsburgh staple since the 1970s, Price and his seven-piece band, Lost Minds, create a funky twist on the blues with his vibrant vocals and horn section. You’ve worked hard this week, so celebrate Hump Day by kicking back with a cold brew (there are over 15 on tap) and some classic Pittsburgh soul music. Get there early to sample some of their amazing food, too! 8 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.

4) Maybe it’s been a stressful week. Pencil in some fun and high brow education with Wednesday Wine Flight at the Cabaret at Theater Square. This week’s flight features wine from the Iberian Peninsula, namely Spain and Portugal. The panel discussion and Q&A will help educate you on what makes these wines special. You’ll enjoy light appetizers to pair with your wine sampling for the added satisfaction of learning a more sophisticated approach to wine pairing. (If you’re like me, anyway, who only knows that red meat = red wine, and fish = white wine.) Enjoy coffee and dessert afterwards (not included in the ticket price but well worth the added cost), and take an evening to wind down from your hectic week. 6:15 p.m. 655 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

5) Progressive musical metallurgists Dream Theater, whose two remaining founding members, John Petrucci and John Myung, played in the band Majesty while attending the noted Berklee College of Music, is playing the Palace Theatre tonight. Guitarist Petrucci was on the G3 tour six times (more than anyone else) and named one of the Top 10 Fastest Shredders of All Time by GuitarOne magazine. Myung was voted the best bassist of all time in a 2010 poll conducted by MusicRadar. Dream Theater formed in 1985 and several of their albums have held respectable chart positions on the Billboard 200. 8 p.m. 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.
