1) For three Saturdays every summer, Walnut Street in Shadyside shifts its focus from the usual bustling bevy of bistros and boutiques to putting a bit of music in the air, courtesy of the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce. The annual Jam on Walnut series brings some big names out for free concerts that stop traffic and pack the pavement. Tonight’s edition features former Povertyneck Hillbilly Chris Higbee. Widely known as one of the best fiddle-playing frontman since Charlie Daniels, Higbee has been going it alone since the rest of the Hillbillies broke away to form The Hillbilly Way in 2012. But Higbee has proven that he has the chutzpah to pull off a solo act, releasing his self-titled solo debut album in 2013 and has toured nationally. All three of the Jams On Walnut are free to attend, and proceeds from food and drink sales benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Donora, a hot Pittsburgh indie-pop band opens. 7 p.m. 5442 Walnut St., Shadyside.

2) Schenley Plaza in Oakland tonight will be quite lively with the WYEP’s  Annual Summer Music Festival. This years line-up features Martin Sexton (9:45 p.m.), The Lone Bellow (8:15 p.m. ), Kopecky (southern rock influenced), and Brightside (6 p.m., Pittsburgh rock band).  Other local bands start at 3p.m. The festival is a family friendly summer music concert, with activities for children and an I Made It! Market  craft marketplace to buy some cool one-of-a-kind items. Bring a picnic basket or buy food from the Plaza’s kiosks and The Porch at Schenley restaurant. Free. Schenley Plaza is nestled in between Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning on Forbes Ave. and Carnegie and Hillman Libraries.

3) Dancing Queen will put people on the dance floor at Baja Bar & Grill. The disco/funk band takes the stage at 8 p.m. 1366 Old Freeport Rd., O’Hara Township.
