Syracuse Orange Play Pitt Panthers; Vocalist Jane Monheit in Concert at MCG (CPs Sat., 11/22/14)

1) The Pitt Panthers football team—trying to salvage a disappointing season—will attempt to put the squeeze on the Syracuse Orange today at Heinz Field. Led by stars running back James Conner and wide receiver Tyler Boyd, the Panthers will want to strike early and often in order to build a big point total and hold on to a winning margin. 3:30 p.m. 100 Art Rooney Ave., North Shore.

2) Grammy-nominated Jazz and adult contemporary vocalist Jane Monheit has collaborated with noted recording artists including Michael Bublé and Brazilian Ivan Lins. Her ability to melodically hold a note has served her well and is pleasantly demonstrated on the songs “In the Still of the Night” and “As Time Goes By.” Monheit is touring in support of her latest album The Heart of the Matter. 6 and 8 p.m. MCG Jazz,1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester.

3) The Son of the Sheik was released in 1926, just after the death of its star Rudolph Valentino and as a followup to his earlier blockbuster The Sheik. Tonight’s screening of this restored silent film will feature a live musical performance by Boston’s Alloy Orchestra, who created a score for the film. The Son of the Sheik is the closing event of the Three Rivers Film Festival and a party follows the film. 8 p.m. Regent Square Theater, 1035 Braddock Ave., Regent Square.
