Guns N’ Roses Set to Rock Heinz Field; ‘Fathers and Daughters’ at Hollywood Theater (Tues., 7/12/16)

1) It will be “Paradise City” for all the Guns N’ Roses fans who were hoping for a revived band lineup that included not only lead vocalist Axl Rose, but also the group’s very talented guitar slinger Slash, who left after differences with Rose in ’96. In fact they are calling this tour the Not In This Lifetime…tour. Forming in 1985, the band rose out of Los Angeles, California to the big time on the wings of their first album Appetite for Destruction and its monster hit single “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” In ’87 the album reached no. 1 on Billboard 200, and the single also reached no.1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. In September of 1991 GNR released its third and fourth album on the same day, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, in conjunction with their tour of the same name. The albums debuted at no. 1 and no. 2 respectively on the Billboard 200, and have sold a combined 35 million albums worldwide. GNR has been called “the most dangerous band in the world” and the original lineup of GNR was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Original bassist Duff McKagan has also rejoined the group. In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Rose stated his intention to create new music with GNR. Let’s hope so. 7:30 p.m. Wolfmother opens. Heinz Field, 100 Art Rooney Ave., North Shore.

2) Fathers and Daughters It’s what used to be known as a four-hankie weeper, so make sure you take Kleenex if you’re going to see this bit of emotional melodrama starring Russell Crowe as a troubled father and Amanda Seyfried as his troubled daughter. They were happy once, back in the day, but then Mom died in a car accident and Dad suffered a physical and mental breakdown. The dead mother’s sister, who hates the father like poison, got custody of the kid and didn’t let her see her father. Now it’s years later and dad is still trying to reconnect with his girl, but she’s become a barfly drowning her pain in men and liquor. There’s an impressive cast: Aaron Paul, Diane Kruger, Quvenzhané Wallis, Bruce Greenwood, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer, and Jane Fonda. And it was filmed in Pittsburgh! But don’t forget what I said about the Kleenex. 7:30 p.m., Continues through Thursday. Hollywood Theater, 1449 Potomac Ave., Dormont.

3) Finding Dory In real life, it was 13 years ago that Pixar released Finding Nemo about a clownfish, Marlin, crisscrossing the Great Barrier Reef to find his lost son. But in this sequel, Finding Dory, it’s only six months later. Dory, you may remember, was the regal blue tang fish with short-term memory problems who helped Marlin in his quest. In this movie, Dory suddenly remembers she grew up in Morro Bay, California and sets off to locate her parents. Ellen DeGeneres is back as Dory, as is Albert Brooks playing Marlin. Also included in the festivities are Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Willem Dafoe, Vicki Lewis, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Bill Hader, Kate McKinnon, and Sigourney Weaver.
