Jason Aldean at First Niagara; Pittsburgh Irish Festival and Fair in the Park Kickoff (Fri., 9/11/15)

1) Slip on your cowboys boots, button up your finest flannel, and head down to the First Niagara Pavilion where music icon Jason Aldean takes center stage for a night of country music fun. One of the most successful names in country music today, Aldean has accumulated many awards over his nine-year career, including Male Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year at 2013’s Academy of Country Music Awards. These accolades are a sure sign that Aldean is currently one of the hottest artists in the world, and his hype train shows no signs of slowing down. Aldean is the headliner on his 2015 Burn It Down tour and is touring in support of his latest single “Gonna Know We Were Here.” Opening are Tyler Farr and Cole Swindell. 7:30 p.m. 665 Rt. 18, Burgettstown.

 

2) The 25th annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival opens at the Riverplex at Sandcastle. Great Irish musicians, dancers and performers play all day on several stages. Entertainment kicks off at 4 p.m. highlights include: The Red Hot Chili Pipers (7:15 p.m., UPMC Stage), Red Hand Patty (8 p.m., Celtic Spirit Stage), Corned Beef and Curry (9:15 p.m., Celtic Spirit Stage), and national band Gaelic Storm, of Titanic movie fame (9:45 p.m., UPMC Stage). Plenty of Irish food will be on hand and can be washed down with Irish beers, ciders and whiskies. Remember everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and during the Pittsburgh Irish Festival. 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. Runs through Sunday. 1000 Sandcastle Dr., West Homestead.

3) The 46th annual A Fair in the Park continues today in Shadyside’s Mellon Park. Promoted as a contemporary fine crafts and arts show and sale, it includes performances, concerts, food, and children’s activities. The Fair is presented by the Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh and Citiparks. Today’s musical highlights include several concerts by performers from Calliope, Pittsburgh’s Folk Music Society. Fair hours are 1 – 7 p.m. Free. Continues through Sunday. Fifth and Shady Aves., Shadyside/Point Breeze.
