Lake Street Dive Plays Mr. Smalls; In Bed by Ten Dance Party at Spirit (Fri., 2/24/17)

1) The last time Lake Street Dive were in town, they played the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival … the evening the Penguins won the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals. If you missed them then and were desiring to see them at Mr. Smalls this month, hopefully you already bought tickets because the show is sold out. The members, who met while students at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music, named their band after a dive-bar-rich street in Minneapolis, trumpeter/guitarist Mike Olson’s hometown. Their sound has touches of pop, Americana, jazz, and soul. For proof of their cross-genre appeal, check out 2016’s Side Pony, the quartet’s fifth studio album. It topped three Billboard album charts—Rock, Folk, and Alternative. “Call Off Your Dogs,” a song from that album, moves in many musical directions and features a music video filmed at the famed Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Joey Dosik opens. 8 p.m. 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale.  (RH/CM)

2) Exhausted from the work week? Lacking the stamina to stay out past midnight? Or, hey, have you always wanted to party with your young-at-heart aunt? In Bed by Ten Dance Party at Spirit in Lawrenceville is the answer to all three of these questions. Your hosts, Design Crush and DJ MB, start the party at 6 p.m. and end it at 9 p.m. Plenty of time to unwind, let loose a little, and be in bed by 10. The DJs spin hits from the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, and today. At every event, admission is a suggested donation to a local charity. This month’s charity is Western Pennsylvania Fund for Choice. Some of its members will be there to sell T-shirts and provide information. If dancing isn’t your thing, enjoy a libation at the bar or order some pizza from the in-house, upstairs pizzeria, Slice Island. Just be sure to leave the kids with the babysitter. 6 p.m. 242 51st St., Lawrenceville. (CM)

3) From co-fronting The Robert Cray Band, leading his own band, recording nine solo albums, and helping John Belushi mold his character of “Joliet” Jake Blues, Portland Oregon R&B/Soul singer Curtis Salgado has enjoyed a rich musical career. He’s even toured with Steve Miller and Santana. Now you can catch this powerful singer at Moondog’s where he will be performing in support of his new album on Alligator Records The Beautiful Lowdown. 8:30 p.m. 378 Freeport Rd., Blawnox.

4) No Bad Juju is a local party band featuring a staggering eight members. This includes two lead vocalists and a horn section, which allows them to replicate the tracks of such beloved jumbo-sized bands as Parliament, Kool and the Gang, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Their set lists also include new hits from the likes of Katy Perry and Adele, as well as a few originals. This evening, they’ll be playing well into the night at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. 9 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.
