Lewis Black Brings his Rants to Heinz Hall; Club Cafe Hosts Billy Price (CPs Sat., 1/10/15)

1) Lewis Blackknown for his humorous rants and multiple uses of his favorite word—fuck—is in town tonight. He was the star of the Comedy Central series “Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil,” and was a regular guest on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” delivering his “Back in Black” commentary piece. His comedic insights contain many truths about our modern society and culture. 8 p.m. Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

2) Soul man Billy Price is performing an early show at Club Cafe with his band. Price has been a fixture on the Pittsburgh R&B scene since the early ’70s, first as frontman for the Shadyside-based Rhythm Kings and as a singer for noted national guitarist Roy Buchanan. Next he formed the Keystone Rhythm Band, which was one of the hottest bands in the Pittsburgh region for over 13 years. After that Price went on to achieve success as a solo artist and with The Billy Price Band, his current group. Price (and band) released his 13th album, Strong, in ’13. 7 p.m. No cover. 56-58 S. 12th St., South Side.

3) The Pitt Panthers basketball team wades deeper into the start of the ACC schedule, playing the Clemson Tigers this afternoon. Coach Jamie Dixon has a young squad and is trying to find the right playing combinations and motivational methods to get this team to excel. This is a battle of the big cats—Tigers vs. Panthers. Jump ball at high noon. The Petersen Events Center, 3719 Terrace St., Oakland.
