Local Talent Seizes Stage AE; Mozart Festival Begins (CPs Sun., 4/27/2014)

1) Truth + White Lies, Pittsburgh’s premier event planners, have specialized in revitalizing the local music scene. For their last act they’re going out with a bang as they present The Rising, a showcase of Pittsburgh’s best underground acts at Stage AE. Think back to the days of Surge Fests and Graffiti Rock Challenges, when Pittsburgh had enough homegrown music to fill First Niagara Pavilion. T+WL brings those days back, with new aspiring artists and the level of exceptional talent we’ve come to expect. The lineup includes the metal sounds of Unparalleled Height and In Lust Lies Loyalty, plus rockers Scene Stage the World, Cabaret Runaway, and  Stratega, while singer/songwriter Noah Rabe mixes it up with some indie/folk rock. Opening acts include Bryan Snyder and Defier. You may end up seeing the next generation’s Rusted Root or The Clarks without even knowing it. Doors 6 p.m. 400 N. Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) Refine your senses with the Mozart Festival courtesy of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall. The festival features an impressive selection of the prodigy’s timeless works including Eine kleine Nachtmusik and his Symphony #41 (the “Jupiter’) along with two concertos. Relax and lose your thoughts with the stunning and time-tested melodies. Then stay for a bit after the performance for a special “sneak peek” by PSO musicians of this coming week’s Mozart chamber music concert at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. 2:30 p.m. 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

3) Get funky on your Sunday with self-proclaimed “techno/doo-hop” group Hypercrush as they take over the Altar Bar. Combining house dance, electronica, and hip hop, the group pumps out upbeat tunes that seem to say “I dare you not to dance when you hear this.” Songs like “Bad Boyz” and “Rage” produce a Ke$ha-meets-LMFAO kind of music that begs you to bust a move. With special guests SIRENSCEOL, Tyr, and Jayefkay. 9 p.m. 1620 Penn Ave., Strip District.

4) Catch the second half of Lawrenceville’s annual Art All Night. Browse a wide variety of unique and uncensored art as well as a designated children’s area complete with activities for little budding artists. Put your own skills to work with collaborative art activities throughout the warehouse space used for this celebration, and take home a masterpiece created right on the premises. This event ends at 2 p.m. today, so grab some coffee and get there early. Until 2 p.m. 4001 Willow St., Lawrenceville
