Mandy Patinkin to Perform with Pittsburgh Symphony; Pirates vs. Cards + Zambelli Fireworks (CPs Sat., 4/5/14)

1) In an episode of the CBS TV show “How I Met Your Mother,” engaged couple Robin and Barney are trying to find a quiet place for a “quickie” the day before their wedding at a rustic inn but are stymied at every turn. There’s also a gaggle of older relatives at the wedding who are trying to find them. They are getting close until Barney yells out “Patinkin” because he says older folks love Mandy Patinkin, and the elder hostiles start looking for Patinkin. The truth is, Mandy Patinkin is a highly talented performer both as an actor and a tenor singer with appeal to fans of all ages. He’s best known for his acting roles on “Chicago Hope,” “Criminal Minds,” and “Homeland.” He even won a Tony Award in 1980 for his role as Che in the Broadway play Evita. Tonight he performs with another amazing cast, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. 8 p.m. Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

2) Our battling Bucs take on the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. Get ready to say ooh and ahh after the game as it is the first Zambelli Fireworks night of the season. 7:05 p.m. 1115 Federal St., North Shore.

3) Zoso, the unofficial name for Led Zeppelin’s 1971 untitled fourth album, was derived from one of the four symbols the band place on the outer jacket. “Zoso” is generally cited as one of the best albums in rock history, containing the songs “Stairway to Heaven,” “Rock and Roll,” “Going to California,” and “Black Dog.” The tribute band called Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience will be performing some of those songs and other Zep tunes tonight at Stage AE. If “it’s been a long time since you rock and rolled” this should be a good show to get you back in the groove.  Doors open at 8 p.m. 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

4) The action in Warrendale tonight is at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille where high energy dance band In Transit will attract people to the dance floor. 8 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr.
