Big Beatles Show No. 12; Pittsburgh Symphony Plays Hartwood (CPs Sun., 7/6/14)

1) Pittsburgh Guitars is holding its 12th Annual Big Beatles Show, a fundraiser to benefit the Strum Together Scholarship Fund. This fun event is a night full of Beatles rockers and ballads performed by a wide array of talented local musicians and bands. Proceeds go towards providing musical performance scholarships to needy young adults. 6 p.m. Rex Theater. 1602 E. Carson St., South Side.

2) The world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will dazzle the crowd tonight with an outdoor show at Hartwood Acres as part of the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series. This free concert will include music by Copland, Bernstein, and Tchaikovsky, featuring cellist Adam Liu, with Fawsi Haimor conducting the orchestra.  Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a night of classical music under the stars. 8 p.m. 200 Hartwood Acres, Hampton and Indiana townships.

3) Bach, Beethoven and Brunch Classical Music Series, presented by the City of Pittsburgh, offers a free concert today by West Hills Symphonic Band. This concert series runs every Sunday through Aug. 10 in Mellon Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Pack your own brunch basket or purchase breakfast items at the park. Fifth and Shady Aves., Point Breeze/Squirrel Hill.

4) Our beloved Buccos take the diamond today against the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s also Kids Day with all fans 14 and under receiving an Andrew McCutchen Poster and a chance to run the bases after the game. There’s a pre-game family fun zone on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. First pitch at 1:35 p.m. 115 Federal St., North Shore.
