A Jazzy Monday: B-PEP Jazz Extravaganza at Heinz History Center; Jergels Hosts Balcony Big Band (Mon., 4/22/19)

1) It’s the 14th Anniversary for B-PEP Jazz, the Black Political Empowerment Project’s celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. The event which will be held at the Heinz History Center and features host bands Roger Humphries & The R H Factor and the The Tim Stevens Project. There will also be an amazing amount of guest jazz artists performing including: Kenny Blake, Etta Cox, Poogie Bell, Harold Betters, Al Dowe, Kevin Howard, Keith Stebler, Phat Man Dee, Staciawa Abbot, and the Afro American Music Institute Youth Jazz Ensemble. There’s even guest emcees. Chris Moore, Lynne Hayes Freeland, Lisa Sylvester, Debbie Norrell, Chuck Leavens, and Bob Studebaker are some of those who will be doing the announcing. And to top off the jazz lovers nirvana, Bill Hillgrove is the honorary chairman. Starts at 5:30 p.m. 1212 Smallman St., Strip District.

2) The Balcony Big Band is hitting only high notes in a Monday night performance at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. The 18 member group makes a big, beautiful sound. Get in some Monday relaxation with good music. 7 p.m. No cover. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.
