Carnegie of Homestead Hosts Jason Isbell; Balcony Big Band at Jergels (CPs Mon., 2/9/15)

1) Singer-songwriter-guitarist Jason Isbell is making a Pittsburgh stop at Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall in support of his latest release Southeastern. This is the sixth solo album by Isbell, who hails from  Green Hill, Alabama. A former member of Drive By Truckers, Isbell continues in the alt country tradition. Songs like “Cover Me Up” and “Goddamn Lonely Love” showcase his rich vocals and songwriting talents. Damien Jurado opens. 7 p.m. 510 East 10th Ave.,
Munhall.

2) The Balcony Big Band, with a special guest, is hitting only high notes in a Monday night performance at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. 7 p.m. No cover. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.

3) Jupiter Ascending — The latest from Andy and Lana Wachowski (creators of The Matrix.) We’re in a dystopian future and a young woman (Mila Kunis) sets out to overthrow the baddies and bring about a happier tomorrow. Hollywood’s gonna keep making these kinds of movies until we all believe it! Also featuring Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, James D’Arcy, and, in a rare acting appearance, Terry Gilliam. Check Fandango for screens and times.
