Cool Picks brings you the best in Pittsburgh entertainment every day!

1) The Warhol Sound Series continues with Jeff Mangum, folk/rock musician,  (Neutral Milk Motel), and special guest Tall Firs & Briars of North America. $1 of each ticket benefits “Children of the Blue Sky” a charity that benefits the street children of Mongolia. 8 p.m. Carnegie Music Hall. 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.

2) Fireworks with special guests: Mace Ballard, Shirts vs. Skins, The Countdown Starts Now; are the rock bands that are on stage at The Smiling Moose. Fireworks are a pop-punk band from the Detroit area. 6:30 p.m. 1306 E. Carson St., South Side.

3) Shadow Lounge hosts Dessa, a  versatile rapper/singer/lyricist;  with special guest Amuck & More. 8 p.m. 5972 Baum Blvd., East Liberty.

4) Students are starting to trickle back into town after holiday break. One cool place to get together is the Rowdy Buck bar on the South Side. Thursday night is College Night at the Rowdy Buck with $2 mixed drinks and $2 Bud Lights from 9 – 11 p.m. Ham Barbeque sandwiches only $1!! That’s almost equal to the cost per serving of other college student staples — ramen noodles and Kraft Mac’ & Cheese. 1323 E. Carson St., South Side.
