Cool Picks Tuesday December 18, 2012

Cool Picks bring you the best in Pittsburgh entertainment every day!

1) There’s a classic drama in town tonight, one with tried and true story lines: good vs. evil, showy vs. subdued, David vs. Goliath. All of these plot lines can be seen in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Raw Smack Down Super Show TV (a title that would have made circus promoter P.T. Barnum proud).  The “Massive Main Event” features John Cena & Sheamus vs. The Big Show & Dolph Ziggler.  There is an under card of several more match ups. 7 p.m. CONSOL Energy Center. Uptown.

2) On the totally opposite end of the entertainment spectrum, Kenny G, the contemporary recording artist and smooth soprano saxophonist, is in concert at Greensburg’s Palace Theatre.  G is touring in support of his recent album, the Grammy-nominated Heart And Soul.  7:30 p.m. 21 W. Otterman St.

3) “Space Exchange,” an experimental new music series happening at Thunderbird Cafe  on Tuesday nights, is focused on improvisation, stretching out, making music.  Tonight’s show features the Thoth Trio, three cats who play a form of “intense acoustic jazz.” The trio includes Ben Opie  (saxophones and clarinet),  Paul Thompson (bass) and David Throckmorton (drums). 9 p.m. No cover. 4023 Butler St., in “the ‘Ville” (Lawrenceville).

4) At Jergel’s Rhythm Grille, Sugar Mountain takes the stage, a versatile blues/rock band comping covers from a diverse pool of American rockers, including Neil Young, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Their set list also includes some original tunes.  8 p.m. No cover. 103 Slade Lane, Warrendale.
