Pittsburgh’s Annual Light Up Night Lineup a Must See! Drew Carey plays CLMH (CPs Fri., 11/22/13)

1) Tonight’s 53rd Annual Light Up Night is the official kick off to Pittsburgh’s holiday season. Highlights include several tree-lighting ceremonies, ice skating at PPG Plaza, Macy’s holiday window unveiling, a concert with Gloria Gaynor (“I Will Survive,” Smithfield Street stage, 6 p.m.), Fireworks (Warhol Bridge, 9:38 p.m.), free horse-drawn carriage rides (Oxford Centre, 6 – 8:45 p.m.), and several Santa appearances. There’s also top-notch local entertainment featuring noted jazz vocalist Michele Bensen, who will be performing with renowned jazz saxophonist Kenny Blake (EQT Plaza stage, 6:30 p.m.), and legendary drummer Roger Humphries and RH Factor (also at EQT Plaza stage). Performing at the Clemente Blues Bridge Stage and Party are The Billy Price Band (6:30 p.m.) and Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers (8 p.m.), with Sputzy (70’s soul and funk, 8 p.m.) and Totally 80’s (9 p.m.) jamming at Northwest Savings Bank Stage at Mellon Square. The world-class Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will be giving a free concert as part of RAD Days 2013 (Heinz Hall, 7:30 p.m.). Merriment and goodwill spontaneously occur all over the Golden Triangle. This is a holiday celebration not to miss. For a complete schedule, visit Downtown Pittsburgh for the Holidays. 5 – 10 p.m., Downtown Pittsburgh.

2) Drew Carey, a former Marine from Cleveland and current host of the popular CBS game show “The Price Is Right,” brings his standup comedy act to Pittsburgh tonight. Carey started his career on the comedy circuit and through hard work and funny routines landed his own namesake TV program—”The Drew Carey Show.” He then produced and hosted another very popular comedy show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” In 2007, Carey was tapped to succeed Bob Barker as the host of “The Price Is Right.” Now he spends his days working with beautiful models and energetic contestants while giving away cars, trips, boats, and cash. Catch Carey on his latest comedy tour. 8 p.m. Carnegie Library Music Hall. 510 E. 10th Ave., Munhall.

3) The Harry Potter novels gave us He Who Must Not Be Named, and now the theater company barebones productions is giving us The Play That Must Not Be Named. Its title is usually rendered as The Motherf**ker with the Hat. The Broadway production starred Chris Rock and was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Play. Earlier this year, Chicago’s famed Steppenwolf Theatre performed it to packed houses and rave reviews. The play is by Stephen Adly Guirgis, whose Jesus Hopped the A Train was done previously by barebones. This one is a comedy-drama about an ex-con in recovery, his girlfriend, and, um, a person with a hat. Through Dec. 7. 8 p.m. New Hazlett Theater, 6 Allegheny Sq. E., North Side.

4) Pittsburgh rock bands Triggers, Harlan Twins, and Delicious Pastries are all on the bill tonight at Brillobox. 9 p.m. 4104 Penn Ave., Bloomfield.

5) The Pens take on the New York Islanders at the Consol Energy Center tonight. Puck drops at 7 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown.
