Bet On Laughs From Bill Cosby at the Meadows; Big Country at Altar Bar (CP’s Sat. 8/17/13)

1) Bill Cosby, one of the nation’s foremost comedians and former spokesman for New Coke and Jell-O Pudding, brings his stand-up comedy act to the Meadows Racetrack and Casino tonight. Cosby is a prolific comedy genius whose TV credits include ” The Bill Cosby Show,” “Fat Albert and  The Cosby Kids,” and “I Spy,”  along with numerous comedy and musical albums. 8 p.m. 210 Racetrack Rd., Washington. This event has Sold Out!

2) Big Country, an 80’s band with a big hit ,plays the Altar Bar. They were very successful with the song of a similar name “In a Big Country.” which rose to No. 3 on the U.S.charts in 1983.The Scottish band has been prolific in releasing over 20 albums including studio, live, and compilation. Their rock sound fuses harmonic vocals, blazing guitars, and big rock beats. 8:30 p.m. Opening are Steelesque and Breaker. 1620 Penn Ave., Strip District.

3) Jam on Walnut, a musical benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Western Pennsylvania that includes bands, beer, and food on a closed off Walnut Street, features regional country performers Chris Higbee and Abacus Jones. Jones will play first. Higbee is formerly with the highly successful Povertyneck Hillbillies. 7 p.m. Walnut Street, Shadyside.

4) The Pirates battle the Arizona Diamondbacks today in a 4:05 p.m. game at PNC Park. If that’s not enough to get you to the ball yard the first 25,000 fans will receive a New Replica Batting Practice Cap and it’s also a Scratch ‘n Win Saturday! 115 Federal St., North Shore

5) Across the river from PNC Park,  the Pittsburgh Riverhounds,  having just clinched a playoff berth, take on the Richmond Kickers in soccer match. 7 p.m. Highmark Stadium, 510 W. Station Square Dr., Station Square.
