Garbage at Stage AE; Pittsburgh Opera Dock Divas on Allegheny River (Tues., 9/23/25)

1) Garbage is a heck of a name for a band that just released an album with the uplifting title Let All That We Imagine Be the Light. It is their eighth, made amid the civic turmoil and the gruesome wars that have marked the past few years worldwide. Band members say they’ve dug deep to find inspiring messages for some songs on this release, which includes numbers like “The Day That I Met God.” Garbage formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1993. Despite a couple of hiatuses (hiati?) since then, the alt-rockers have maintained their original lineup. Dynamic lead singer Shirley Manson first made her mark with Angelfish, then was recruited to join Garbage’s formative trio of Butch Vig, Steve Marker, and Duke Erikson (who differs from Duke Ellington by more than just a couple of consonants). The group has a global following and is currently on tour. See Garbage in Pittsburgh at Stage AE, with guest artists Starcrawler. 2) A sunset soiree filled with open-air arias awaits those who love opera. But you don’t need to know your Puccini from your Rossini to enjoy this free evening celebrating both the Pittsburgh Opera’s new season and this year’s new resident artists, many of whom will sing their favorites from the great American songbook. Dock Divas is open to the public and staged on Riverlife’s Shore Thing, the grand new dock on the North Shore at Federal Street. Come for “Barge Bites,” brews, and perhaps a sampling of La Bohème, the opera’s upcoming October production. 5:30 to 7:00 pm. 2 Federal Street, Northside.
