History Center After Hours: America’s 250th; Dan Kamin’s ‘The Magic Lesson’ at Greer Cabaret (Thurs., 6/25/26)

1) On Thursday, June 25, five floors of exhibits will open for a special 21+ birthday bash to celebrate 250 years of American independence, History after Hours: America 250. Raise a glass of Cherry Bounce (claimed to be George Washington’s favorite elixir), then challenge your friends in an All-American Trivia Throwdown. There’ll be an art salon in which to have your “ presidential” portrait drawn, a vintage flea market, and a Wish Wall to mark your hopes for the next 250 years.

2) Pittsburgh-based creator/performer Dan Kamin rarely wears a hat, but metaphorically speaking, he’s known for wearing several. A skilled mime, Kamin is widely recognized as an expert on the physical art and comedy of Charlie Chaplin; he coached Robert Downey Jr. for the title role in the movie Chaplin. In live theater, Kamin has worked as a director, actor, and writer. And now he presents a one-man multimedia show that he created from—well, not exactly from scratch. Dan also happens to be a magician. In The Magic Lesson, he demonstrates amazing sleight-of-hand tricks—using widescreen video closeups of himself, so the magic can be seen clearly—while pulling together his talents in comedy and stage narrative to take audiences on a personal journey through the lore and intricacies of this mysterious craft. Long story short, it’s more than magic. It’s a unique theater experience.
