Lyndsey Smith and Soul Distribution; Pitt vs. NC State (Sat., 1/14/17)

1) One of the top soul and R&B singers in Pittsburgh is Lyndsey Smith who with her band Soul Distribution have been climbing in popularity over the last several years. Smith, a Jersey shore native, counts among her influences Anita Baker, Chaka Kahn, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, EWF, Michael Jackson, and especially the late great Ella Fitzgerald. Smith and Soul Distribution’s hard work paid off when they won the 2015 Hard Rock Rising Battle of the Bands in Pittsburgh against 87 other groups. They’ve opened for several notable artists including Tower of Power and Damien Escobar.  Smith and Soul Distribution are having an EP release party tonight for Rhapsodize Me which contains their recently dropped single “Keep on Movin‘.” Sounds like a funky good time! 8 p.m. James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy, 422 Foreland St., North Side.

2) The Pitt men’s basketball team and coach Kevin Stallings take on the Miami Hurricane’s today in a noon game.  Hopefully they’ll find a way to step it up on defense and shut down hot three-point shooters. Next up is an away game at North Carolina State on Tuesday. Hail to Pitt! Petersen Events Center, 3719 Terrace St., Oakland.
