Maroon 5 in Concert at PPG Paints Arena; Pittsburgh Opera Opens ‘Fellow Travelers’ at Byham Theater (Fri., 11/14/25)

1) A Maroon 5 concert is a great setting for a fun night out. The radio-friendly rockers rose to fame with their 2002 album, Songs About Jane, which included the singles “She Will Be Loved” and “Harder to Breathe.” “Moves like Jagger” became one of the songs of the summer in 2011. After more success, Maroon 5 scored a career highlight gig, performing the halftime show at Super Bowl LIII in 2019 (which unfortunately was a highlight-less game, with the Patriots out-squelching the Rams 13 to 3). The post-pandemic years have seen the band soldier on — or whatever the correct verb is for doing a two-year residency in Las Vegas, as Maroon 5 did. Their latest album is this year’s Love Is Like. Adam Levine still fronts the group. He’ll be front and center as Maroon 5 visits Pittsburgh for a concert at PPG Paints Arena. The opening artist is Claire Rozinkranz. 8 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown. 2) Not all operas are old or classic. Some speak to modern prejudices, taboo affairs, and political scandals as are surely rampant in Washington, D.C. these days. Fellow Travelers premiered in 2016 and is based on the 2007 novel by Thomas Mallon, yet it’s set during the McCarthy era in the early 1950s. A young crusader against communism comes to meet a dashing State Department official who takes the young man under his wing. Their sexual dalliance proves that the Red Scare holds no candle to homophobia, especially in the arena of pressure politics. Written and sung entirely in English, the accessibility of Fellow Travelers to American audiences also helps dispel the expectation that great operatic story-telling can only succeed with divas fawning over long arias. Pittsburgh Opera presents this modern masterpiece for three performances only in November, specifically, 14, 15, and 16. 7 p.m. At the Byham Theater. 101 Sixth St., Cultural District. (C.P.O.)
