Mystical “La Bayadère” Opens at Pittsburgh Ballet; Brewers vs. Bucs + Free Shirt Friday (CPs Fri., 4/17/15)

1) Classical ballet at its grandest is on display in La Bayadère (“The Temple Dancer”), the closing production of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s current season. This 1877 work by Marius Petipa—the legendary master who liked to pull out all the stops—has over 100 roles, and requires some of the most intricate and demanding dance technique in the repertoire. The story of La Bayadére is set in a mythical ancient India, where a noble warrior and the young dancer he loves are caught in a web of intrigue. For the audience, the intrigue includes mesmerizing mystical overtones, as in the famous “Kingdom of the Shades” scene. 8 p.m. Runs through Sunday. Benedum Center, 237 7th St., Cultural District.

2) Our battlin’ Bucs take on the Milwaukee Brewers tonight in a 7:05 p.m. game. It’s also Free Shirt Friday, with the first 20,000 fans receiving a Pirates T-shirt. Let’s hope the Pirates make the Brewers cry in their beer. PNC Park, 115 Federal St.,  North Shore.

3) Dancing Queen will put people on the dance floor at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. The disco/funk band takes the stage at 9 p.m. 103 Slade Ln., Warrendale.

4) Good Fridays at the Warhol is a weekly party at the museum, featuring art exhibits, music, and cocktails in the high temple to Andy Warhol’s numerous talents. Half-price museum admission. 5 – 10 p.m. 117 Sandusky St., North Shore.
