‘Our Dear Dead Drug Lord’ Continues at barebones (Thurs., 6/18/26)

Occasionally a theater company may post a warning to its audience that a play will employ bright flashing lights, foul language or gunfire. Barebones productions’ Our Dear Dead Drug Lord posts several warnings, the least worrisome of which is “brief fog effects.” The other warnings suggest such acts that may spoil the appeal of this rather dark comedy. Suffice it to say “don’t bring the kids.” (Or their grandparents!) That’s because this story is about what happens when four wayward teenage girls, each a social outcast, conspire in a secluded tree house to raise the dead spirit of Pablo Escobar. A tale about navigating life’s challenges is made all the more nefarious while trying to navigate a Ouija board. Yet much, much more than typical teenage trouble arises. Playwright Alexis Scheer premiered this horror/comedy Off Broadway in 2019 and won the New York Times top critic pick. 9 p.m. Tonight is pay what you can. barebones black box theatre, 1211 Braddock Avenue in Braddock.
