Soul Asylum and The English Beat in Concert at Jergel’s; Pirates vs. Giants (Wed., 6/22/16)

1) Soul Asylum is an innovative alternative rock group that formed in Minneapolis in 1983 and has recorded many memorable songs including “Somebody to Shove,” “Runaway Train” and “Black Gold.” The band’s most recent album is Change of Fortune, released in March. Soul Asylum is coming to town to share a bill with The English Beat, the 1980s new wave/ska/punk/reggae band. Some of this band’s biggest hits are “Mirror in the Bathroom,” “Save It For Later” and “Too Nice To Talk To.” You can catch both acts at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. 8 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale. (RH)

2) It’s time for the Pirates to start heading for the postseason track even though the’re banged up. The next man up has to shoulder the load. They can start tonight with a win against the San Francisco Giants in the third game of a four-game home stand against them. 7:05 p.m.  PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.

3) The Conjuring 2 2013 saw the release of the first Conjuring, a horror film about real life paranormal investigators Ed & Lorraine Warren called to Rhode Island to help a family being haunted by demons and spirits. It cost $20 million and made $318 million so you had to know there’d be a sequel. This time the Warrens travel to merry olde England to help a single mother whose home is filled with malicious devils. Both the Rhode Island incident and the British one are based on actual events. The Warrens are probably most famous for their connection to what became known as The Amityville Horror. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as the Warrens who, as self-proclaimed “demonologists”, have managed to get pretty far peddling what the Brits call “a load of old bollocks.” See Fandango for screens and times.
