Tame Impala to Run Loose at Stage AE; Park House Hosts Bluegrass Jam (Wed., 6/3/15)

1) Tame Impala is the one-man band of Kevin Parker of Perth, Australia. He and four touring musicians will play Stage AE a month before the release of Currents, his new LP, due July 17. Pittsburghers have plenty of opportunities to learn the new songs, though. Parker has already performed four tunes from the album, beginning with the almost eight-minute-long, psychedelic whirlwind of “Let It Happen.” More recently, it’s been hard to decide which is better: the slow headnod of “‘Cause I’m a Man” or its spiralling, 3D music video. Tame Impala is also sure to play cuts from 2010’s Innerspeaker and 2012’s critically acclaimed Lonerism. Get ready for quite a few Pink Floyd-esque light effects as well. Kuroma opens. Doors open 7 p.m. 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) Check out the Bluegrass Jam at the Park House, which bills itself as Pittsburgh’s oldest and friendliest tavern. The Shelf Life String Band hosts this weekly event where you can relax and enjoy the music or join the jam. Either way, Yuengling pints are only $2 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Jam starts at 9 p.m.  Enjoy complimentary peanuts and popcorn. 403 E. Ohio St., North Side.

3) Cappy’s Cafe in Shadyside is holding a Team Trivia contest tonight with Trivia Master John. 9 – 11 p.m. Yuengling draft special is $3 for a 20 oz. brew. 5431 Walnut St.
