The Silencers Play City Winery; Riverlife’s Chalk Fest; Well Known Strangers at Arcade Comedy Theater (Sat., 5/30/26)
1) The Silencers were one of Pittsburgh’s top bands in the early 1980’s and featured a talented lineup of rock and rollers that included Frank Czuri (vocals), the late Warren King (guitar), and the late Byrd Foster (drums). The group’s original material combined rock, new wave, R&B, soul, and reggae. Their main claim to fame was a video of the Silencers’ medley “Peter Gunn Theme/Remote Control/Illegal” which aired on MTV on the very day the network premiered in 1981. The video won several awards. The group released two major-label albums and three singles. Billboard magazine said of the Silencers’ debut LP Rock’n’Roll Enforcers: “The Silencers are armed with a hard hitting debut. Fronted by the aggressive vocals of Frank Czuri…the Silencers show an amazing command of rock history…This is slashing rock which goes for the jugular.” The Silencers have reloaded and you can celebrate The Silencers live at City Winery. 7:30 p.m. 1627 Smallman St., Strip District. (R.H.)

Riverlife’s Shore Thing floating platform is ready for the summer season with food, drinks, music, yoga and more.
2) A newer attraction is Riverlife’s Shore Thing. Now in its second year, it is a seasonal barge that offers fun activities along the Allegheny riverfront between the Roberto Clemente Bridge and Andy Warhol Bridge on the North Shore, free for all to access from Allegheny Landing. BG Brewing returns to offer food and drink on board for purchase. The menu features Pittsburgh classics with Japanese-Hawaiian influences including plate lunch, sandwiches, and sides; while beverages feature BG beer, cocktails, and a non-alcoholic selection of coffee, sodas, lemonade, and juices. All have a theme of “Pittsburgh to the Pacific.” Riverlife Chalk Fest (May 30 & 31) features professional chalk artists from across the U.S., as well as activities, food, drink, live music, and more. Emerging individual artists, DJs, and bands perform every Thursday evening beginning June 4, and on Sunday mornings beginning June 7, YogaRoots on Location will conduct yoga classes. Shore Thing Performing Arts Series will occasionally host jazz artists and on July 14, Pittsburgh Symphony musicians.

3) With gas prices rises and other prices increasing we all deserve a good laugh or two! And that’s just what Arcade Comedy Theater is intending to do with presenting Pittsburgh improv troupe, Well Known Strangers. The comedy group features long-form improv and has been performing around Pittsburgh for over 14 years. Arcade says, “This troupe uses its combined years of improv experience to create delightful and absurd storylines based on audience suggestions.” Their program for this performance is Close Encounters.
