Train and Daughtry at The Pete; Celtic Thunder Performs With Pittsburgh Symphony (CPs Tues., 12/9/14)

1) 100.7 FM Presents O Starry Night 2 featuring an all-star lineup of Train, Daughtry, O.A.R., Christina Perri, and Matt Nathanson. This is a power-packed, power-pop bill happening at the University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center and a good reason to walk up Cardiac Hill. 7 p.m. 3719 Terrace St., Oakland.

2) With dancers, 10 featured singers, and an eight-piece band that includes strings, guitar, percussion, and pipes, Celtic Thunder has something for everyone. Tonight they’ll be performing with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Brophy. You’ll get smooth and mesmerizing vocals along with crisscrossing genres of traditional Irish, classical, and adult-contemporary music when the super-group stops in Pittsburgh for a performance at Heinz Hall. With deep and complex harmonies, as in “Amazing Grace,” Celtic Thunder may give you some of those “oh-my-gosh-that-was-amazing” chills. 7:30 p.m. 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

Penguins of Madagascar – And here comes Benedict Cumberbatch playing another spy, this time as a penguin in this animated film about a group of covert birds out to save the world! Also featuring the voice talents of Ken Jeong, John Malkovich, and, God help us, Werner Herzog. Check Fandango for screens and times.
