“The Glass Menagerie”

October 7 2014 @ 7:00 pm

In the Public Theater's opener, Cathryn Wake is Laura and she owns 'The Glass Menagerie.'

The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is running through Nov. 2 at Pittsburgh Public Theater. The Public, now in its 40th year, is billing this year’s lineup of performances as “The Season of Legends.” Kicking off the slate is the play that made Williams’ reputation after it premiered in 1944. It’s vintage Williams, filled with memorable language and complicated tensions, and there really is a menagerie: The character Laura is a shy, reclusive young woman who keeps a collection of small glass animals. The play’s conflict centers on whether Laura can be pulled from her shell into the larger and messier zoo of human relationships? 7 p.m. 621 Penn Ave., Cultural District.
