Sample the Spring Brews at Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week

A tasty beer is good for the soul.

A tasty beer is good for the soul.

The snow is gone, the trees are blossoming into color, and the days are getting longer and warmer. So thoughts are naturally turning to balmy evenings spent outdoors, sipping a locally crafted beverage.

That’s why it’s great timing for Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, running from April 17 to 26 – the perfect chance to sample the region’s best craft brews and work up a shortlist for those summer afternoons on the porch.

From beer and movie nights, beer brunches (including the aptly named Kegs N’ Eggs, at Bocktown Beer and Grill), meet-the-brewer events and even Craft Beer Cupcakes, the festival features a wealth of beer-sampling opportunities.

You can even imbibe while practicing your downward dog: The Brew Gentlemen taproom on Braddock Ave. in Braddock is hosting Sunday beer and yoga classes, in collaboration with South Hills Power Yoga. Each hour-long class includes a 5oz tasting glass followed by brunch.

Local brewhouses have collaborated to produce special brews for the event, which will all be on tap at Caliente Pizza & Draft House in Bloomfield.

Market District in Shadyside is offering a free beer and cheese pairing, while the beer lovers over at Industry Public House will be exploring the best brews to drink with chocolate.

More than 300 events are on offer before Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week closes on Sunday, April 26 with an unofficial sendoff at Caliente Pizza & Draft House from 5 p.m. “till the beers are gone.”
