Turkish Fare Parkside at Istanbul Sofra; All-You-Can-Bowl at Arsenal Bowl (Mon., 3/19/18)

1) Open for a few years now, Istanbul Sofra is a welcome addition to that colorful culinary corner on South Braddock and Forbes across from Frick Park. Seinfeld’s Kenny Bania would proclaim their lentil soup “the best, Jerry, the best.” The falafels, hummus, and kebabs are also hard to beat.  Additionally cool: BYOB; outdoor seating and cay. That last item is pronounced “chai,” but don’t confuse it with those sugary lattés from Starbucks. A dark red tea, cay comes in tulip-shaped glasses and is a symbol of Turkish hospitality. Top off your meal with some Turkish coffee and baklava. 7600 Forbes Ave., Regent Square. (CM)

2) Arsenal Bowl is a longtime entertainment stalwart of the Lawrenceville entertainment scene. It’s been in business since 1938. We’ve all heard of “all-you-can-eat restaurant” specials. At Arsenal Bowl, they have all-you-can-bowl specials during certain time periods every day of the week except Tuesdays. During Rock and Bowl (Wednesday night, 9 p.m. – midnight), you get all-you-can-bowl and a live band on the lanes for $8 (no, if you bowl, you won’t be able to hit them with your ball). For Top Shelf Saturday Night (9 p.m. – midnight), the bowling alley brings in a DJ. You can bowl all you desire for $10.95, plus there’s $1 off top-shelf liquors. The kitchen offers munchies, burgers, and pizza. Monday-Thursday: noon – midnight. Friday: noon – 2:00 a.m. Saturday: 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. Sunday: 11 a.m. – midnight. 4310 Butler St., in the heart of “the Ville,” Lawrenceville.
