1) The Pittsburgh Jewish Film Festival opens today and is an annual festival celebrating cinematic Judaica. Now in it’s 25th year, the festival features a variety of short and full-length films, talks, and events. The goal of the festival is to showcase the many varied aspects of Jewish life and culture and demonstrate that we are all part of a common humanity. Screenings will be held at the South Side Works Cinema and continue through May 6. The opening night film is Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel. Jonathan Mayo, a  MLB.com reporter from Pittsburgh, joins together with his filmmaker friends as they travel to Israel with a makeshift baseball team of Jewish ball players from Major League Baseball. The team actually makes a run for Team Israel at the 2017 World Baseball Classic and deepens their bonds to Israel and Judaism. Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller, and Jeremy Newberger direct. The movie will be followed by a Q&A with Jonathan Mayo and a pop-up after-party across from the theater. 7 and 7:30 p.m. For a complete list of films and times for JFilm Festival see their website. 425 Cinema Dr., South Side Works.

2) Our battlin’ Bucs take on the Detroit Tigers, in the last game of a three-game home stand. The Pirates did have a great start to the season, but things have gone downhill as of late with a handful of frustrating losses. Let’s get back on track now. First pitch this afternoon at 12:35 p.m. Next up for the Pirates is a three-game home stand against the St. Louis Cardinals. PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.
