Zac Brown Band Plays KeyBank Pavilion; Jergel’s Hosts Kiefer Sutherland, PA Rib Fest in Greensburg (Fri., 6/28/19)

1) Eight-piece country-rock outfit The Zac Brown Band is a very versatile band. 2015’s Jekyll + Hyde, the band’s fourth major-label album, featured a diversity of musical styles. This diversity was demonstrated by collaborations with both Sara Bareilles and Soundgarden’s late leader, Chris Cornell. The Zac Brown Band song “Heavy Is the Head,” featuring Cornell, was primarily released to rock radio stations and not country. The move was a good one, as the song sat atop the Billboard chart for Mainstream Rock songs for a period that year, a rare cross-genre feat. Brown and his band are touring in support of their latest release, 2017’s Welcome Home. KeyBank Pavilion. Drake White opens. 7 p.m. 665 Route 18, Burgettstown. (EC, RH)

2) Kiefer Sutherland began his career with such movies as 1986’s Stand by Me. He became synonymous with his character, Agent Jack Bauer, on the Fox drama “24,” and he also plays President Kirkman on Netflix’s “Designated Survivor.” But Sutherland has other talents. He started Ironworks, an independent record label, in 2002, where he remained more a behind-the-scenes guy until he recorded an album of originals, 2016’s Down in a Hole. In April he released a new album, Reckless & Me. Fans of Sutherland or rock ‘n’ roll can see him at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. 8 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale. (CM)

3) The Pennsylvania Rib Fest begins today and runs through Sunday at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Greensburg. Food offerings include national champion BBQ ribbers from PA, Virginia, Arkansas, Ohio, and Texas along with specialty food vendors. Also on the bill is a beer garden, bands including Beatlemania Now, East Coast Turnaround, NOMAD, and Saddle Up, a marketpalce, and kids kingdom. 123 Blue Ribbon Lane.
