Stage AE Hosts Mac Miller; Mayhem Fest at Niagara; Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Party; Rob Schneider Plays the Improv (CP’s Fri. 7/12/13)

Folks, we have a real humdinger of a summer Friday here. There’s music, mirth, rap, and mayhem breaking out all over the Pittsburgh area. So, get out, enjoy, and be safe, we love you!

1) Rapper and hometown talent Mac Miller returns to the ‘Burg for a concert at Stage AE tonight. Miller, a Pittsburgh Taylor Allderdice graduate, has even created songs with local ties, “Party on Fifth Avenue” from Blue Slide Park (referto Upper Frick Park) and “Frick Park Market.” Miller sometimes teams up for concerts with another Pittsburgh rapper, Wiz Khalifa, but this show he’s flying his own banner, The Space Migration Tour. Openers are Chance the RapperVince Staples, and The Internet. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) There will be a ruckus at First Niagara Pavilion with the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival occurring today with the likes of Rob ZombieMastodonFive Finger Death Punch, and Amon Amarth. 1 p.m. 665 Route 18, Burgettstown.

3) One of the biggest parties of the year is happening tonight in the Cultural District, the 7th annual fundraising gala for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust—Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh: To the Moon! The regular ticket includes drinksdesserts, and dancing at the Byham Theater (101 6th St.). VIP ticket also includes free parking, access to two secret Cultural District locations with food prepared by local chefs, specialty cocktails, private art exhibit, and entertainment and music from the Boilermaker Jazz Band. Cultural District.

4) Funnyman Rob Schneider achieved fame as a writer and cast member on Saturday Night Live. He was nominated for three Emmy awards (ensemble nominations) and a Peabody for writing on SNL, and he’s also starred in some good and not-so-good movies. For Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005), Schneider was nominated for both an MTV Movie Award for Sexiest Performance and three Razzie Awards, for which he won Worst Actor, Worst Screen Couple, and Worst Screenplay. Schneider probably isn’t worried about the negative publicity, though; the guy is always entertaining and his projects make money. You can catch him at Pittsburgh Improv. 8 and 10 p.m. Schneider also is performing two shows tomorrow night, at 7 and 9 p.m. 166 E. Bridge St., The Waterfront. Homestead.

5) Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District is happening tonight; it features visual arts, musical performances, and interactive exhibits. All events are free and take place at a variety of galleries, art spaces, and venues. Some galleries offer drinks and hors d’oeuvres. 5:30 – 9 p.m., Cultural District.

6) The Pirates meet the Mets in the opening game of a three-game home stand at PNC Park. Tonight is a Free Shirt Friday with all fans receiving a free Pirates shirt. 115 Federal St., North Shore.

7) Good Fridays at the Warhol is a weekly party at the museum, featuring art exhibits, music, and cocktails in the high temple to Andy Warhol’s numerous talents. Half-price museum admission. 5 – 10 p.m. 117 Sandusky St., North Shore.

8) The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series continues tonight at South Park Amphitheater with former teen idol, the subject of numerous Tiger Beat stories, and member of the 1970’s TV show The Partridge FamilyDavid Cassidy. Two of his biggest hits were “I Think I Love You” and “Cherish.” 7:30 p.m. Free. Near Brownsville and McCorkle roads.

9) Summer Sounds Concert Series continues with some great music as well. Sweetback Sisters is this week’s band, whose sound is described as spanning the spectrum between Patsy Cline and Bette Midler, with a side of Kitty Wells. Pre-show music is by Mo Nelson, starting at 6:15 p.m. Free. St. Clair Park, 135 N. Maple Ave., Greensburg.
