Lt. Dan Band to Jam Out Stage AE for Cpl. Doug and Alexis Vitale (CP’s Fri. 8/9/13)

1) In the mythical American movie Forrest Gump, Lt. Dan (Gary Sinise) is Gump’s (Tom Hanks) commanding officer in Vietnam.  Lt. Dan is injured and is disabled.  His friendship with Gump develops and they have several adventures together. The Lt. Dan Band is a rock and roll outfit put together by Sinise and long time collaborator Kimo Williams. They play cover tunes and their concerts are fun events that benefit severely wounded military veterans. Their Pittsburgh concert is a fundraiser to assist Marine Cpl. Doug Vitale and his devoted wife Alexis, build a house that has smart features that minimize accessibility problems. Cpl. Vitale was leading his men on patrol in Afghanistan in 2011 and stepped on an IED pressure plate that exploded. He  lost both legs above the knee and suffered several strokes. So, come on out and have a good time while honoring an extraordinary serviceman, Cpl. Dan Vitale! Concert begins at 7 p.m. Stage AE, 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) If your taste runs to post-apocalyptic fantasies, here’s a chance to savor a darkly comic, dystopian tale. The play Don Juan Comes Back from the War, long a cult favorite in Europe, has been put into a new English version that’s being given its U.S. premiere by Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre. The play’s author, Odon von Horvath, imagined the mythical seducer Don Juan in a nightmarish setting. He’s a German veteran of World War I, the calamity that ushered in our modern age by changing everything while solving nothing. Coming home to the chaos of defeated Berlin, Don Juan finds that women are still game but the game is turning against him. Runs through Aug. 13 and features nudity and foul language. 8 p.m. Henry Heymann Theatre (the downstairs theater in the Stephen Foster Memorial) next to the Cathedral of Learning, Oakland.

3) The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series continues tonight at South Park Amphitheater with the Global Diversity Fest featuring Los Amigos Invisibles with DJ Global Beats (Disco/Latin/Funk). Sounds like a cool new slice of flavor. 7:30 p.m. Free. Near Brownsville and McCorkle roads.

4) Light Up The Trap is an all night “trap and edm uv glow” party featuring BUKU, questkaey, and FRZY. enjoy the glow and trap (electronic music that incorporates multiple kick drum beats, sped up hi-hat hits, and layered synthesizers combined with hip-hop lyrics) beats. 7:30 p.m. Rex Theater, 1602 E. Carson St.

5) Summer Sounds Concert Series continues with some great music by The Black Lilies, whose roots sound is derivative of a hard life in Tennessee. However, their music, similar to the blues genre and produces an uplifting effect.. Pre-show music is by Sue Gartland, starting at 6:15 p.m. Free. St. Clair Park, 135 N. Maple Ave., Greensburg.

6) Good Fridays at the Warhol is a weekly party at the museum, featuring art exhibits, music, and cocktails in the high temple to Andy Warhol’s numerous talents. Half-price museum admission. 5 – 10 p.m. 117 Sandusky St., North Shore.
