1) Unbroken—Angelina Jolie’s sophomore directorial outing, this film is the true story of the Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, who joined the Army in 1941. He was shot down by the Japanese and kept in a POW camp for the duration of the war. Check Fandango for screens and times.
2) Shock Value—It’s so difficult to be an artist today; trends and fads make pursuing an original impulse all but impossible. Is there anything new to say? Well, this 2014 film might have an answer. Zak Hudson plays a struggling director who witnesses a serial killing … and blackmails the killer to be in his new movie. It’s a safe bet to say nobody’s had that idea before. 7:30 p.m. Hollywood Theater, 1449 Potomac Ave., Dormont.
3) Into the Woods—The movie event of the season. Stephen Sondheim’s Tony-winning musical mash-up of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack & The Beanstalk, Cinderella, and Rapunzel finally makes it to the big screen with an all-star cast that includes Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, and Meryl Streep. Check Fandango for screens and times.
