Outlaws at Jergel’s; Pittsburgh Improv Hosts Christina Pazsitzky (CPs Thurs., 1/15/15)

1) Southern rock finds its way north at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille with the Outlaws. For the past 40 years, the band has been thriving in the Southern rock genre along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, and The Allman Brothers. Founded in Tampa, Fla., in ’67, the Outlaws put forth a Southern rock opus with “Green Grass and High Tides” and scored a major hit with “There Goes Another Love Song.” Outlaw trademarks include beautiful vocal harmonies and intricate lead guitar play. Surviving the test of time, the inevitable evolution of popular music, and bandmates’ deaths, the Outlaws are definitely alive, kicking, and, it would seem, stronger than ever. Some things really do get better with age. 8 p.m. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.

2) Rising star comedian Christina Pazsitzky jokes that she spent her formative years in the food court of the Sherman Oaks Galleria (she’s a Los Angeles native). On the former E! show “Chelsea Lately,” she was a regular Round Table guest and writer. Pazsitzky is also a regular on Tru TV’s “World’s Dumbest,” was the host of the FX series “Hitchhiker Chronicles,” and has appeared in MTV’s “Road Rules Australia.” In addition to headlining comedy clubs, she’s spent time overseas entertaining our troops in South Korea, Africa, and the Middle East. 8 p.m. Performances at the Pittsburgh Improv through Sunday. 166 E. 3) We may not have had much snow in the Pittsburgh region, but we still have plenty of water, and freezing water makes ice. So, enjoy ice skating at the Citiparks’ Schenley Skating Rink. Set on a hillside near the top of Schenley Park, the rink and its environs offer picturesque views of the Pittsburgh cityscape. 7 – 9 p.m. Family Skate (one child free with each paying adult); skate rental and lessons available. Overlook Drive, Schenley Park, Squirrel Hill.
