Big Game Funday (CPs Sun., 2/1/14)

It’s game day, and today’s the big one! Our Steelers may not have made it, but let’s have one last hoorah before the offseason. Are you ready to party?

1) If you want wings, you want Archie’s. With 14 different sauces and rubs ranging from lemon pepper to flaming hot, there’s something for every wing palate. Pair it with a tall draft and it’ll feel like Steeler Sunday one more time. If you can’t choose between a hoagie and pizza during the game, try the Archie flat bread, topped with your favorite Italian hoagie fixins. Grab your friends, order a round of cold ones, and let the fun begin! Archie’s also has specials during Penguins and Pirates games, so you may have found the place to watch all your sports. 2) If you don’t feel like street parking or venturing into the city, check out the suburban Thirsty’s in Allison Park. With nine TVs and plenty of sports memorabilia, this is a great place to kick back and watch the game. Enjoy $3.95 Ultimate Bloody Marys all day, $2.50 Budweiser or Bud Light drafts during the game, and $1 shots from 8 – 10 p.m. As far as the food goes, if you leave hungry, it’s your own fault. Start with the Lounge Fries (you’ll need a fork with all the toppings, and no one will judge you). For light eating, there’s a choice of salad meals. If you’re looking for something more substantial, the Pierogi Burger or the fish sandwich that packs a “monster filet” will tackle your hunger. With a TV at nearly every possible angle and plenty of cold beer on tap, you’ll be coming back again. 11 a.m. – midnight. 2412 Ferguson Rd., Allison Park.

3) Before you settle in with more food than you can imagine, consider helping out our less fortunate neighbors by attending WYEP’s Alternative Souper Bowl during the afternoon before the game. Local artists are performing and the station is broadcasting the event live. This year’s lineup includes Grand Piano, Kai Roberts, and The Early Mays. Donations of food and household items will be collected for HEARTH to help local displaced women and their children.
