Red Wings vs. Pens; Tasty Nepali Fare at Subba (CPs Wed., 2/11/15)

1) Today at the Consol Energy Center there’s a showdown between the Motor City and the Steel City as the Detroit Red Wings are in town to take on our Pens. The Pens are trying to peck their way into the playoff picture, so, let’s hope they notch another win in that direction today. 8 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown.

2) As a sign of Pittsburgh’s growing cultural diversification, Nepali cuisine has been cropping up around the Steel City, with the North Side’s Subba generating some serious buzz among foodies. Quick geography primer: Nepal, home of Mt. Everest, is a country bordering India to the northeast. Unsurprisingly, then, Nepali food is reminiscent of Indian food. But, if you’re a Pittsburgher looking for something more familiar, something, say, pierogi-like, try momo—Nepalese dumplings filled with chicken and spices. Get them pan-fried or steamed. Other popular favorites include mango lassi (a yogurt-based drink) and a variety of meat and vegetarian dinner plates. Subba also serves Indian and Chinese dishes. Although the restaurant’s inside decor may be bare, it’s the food that’s bursting with color. 700 Cedar Ave., North Side.

3) Project Almanac—A group of plucky teenagers discover plans for a time machine and decide to build their own. They initially use their time-travel abilities to rectify past mistakes, but human nature kicks in and they start changing the past for personal profit. Pretty soon they’re out of control, and their activities wreak devastating changes for the future. (If they’d gone back in time and kept Mark Zuckerberg from getting his hands on a computer, they’d be my personal heroes.) Check Fandango for local screens and times.
