On the eve of Labor Day weekend, hundreds of young Pittsburghers and a handful of older ones navigated construction and raindrops in Garfield for Unblurred: First Fridays on Penn Avenue. The monthly gallery crawl, which began in the late ’90s, is known for its edgy art, youthful energy, and diversity. Unblurred was created by the Penn Avenue Arts Initiative, a joint project of Friendship Development Associates and the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation to help breathe new life into Garfield’s main-street corridor along Penn Avenue. The event has continued to grow and now hosts a night market that serves as incubator for fledgling businesses. Now if only they could finish re-paving the sidewalks …
