1) Fitz and The Tantrums first big success came in 2010 when the band broke out in 2010 when the album Pickin’ Up the Pieces reached number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. The album generated several hits, including “MoneyGrabber,” “Don’t Gotta Work It Out,” and “Breakin’ the Chains of Love.” Fitz and the Tantrums followed up with 2013’s More Than Just a Dream. Its “Out of My League” also climbed the charts. Fitz and the Tantrums have grown into a more highly polished dance-pop sound and have lost some of their rawer musical power, but they are still a very interesting band to hear live. Their 2016 release, Fitz and The Tantrums, contained the hit single “HandClap.” Fitz and the Tantrums are touring in support of their latest LP, Let Yourself Free. And you can see the group for free tonight at Hartwood Acres with special guest Rett Madison. 7:30 p.m. 4070 Middle Road, Allison Park. (R.H.)
2) Rugby is a fast-paced, hard hitting game and has even been called “elegant violence.” This writer played rugby for I.U.P. while in college. A slightly more refined version of the game, sevens, is being celebrated today at Highmark Stadium. The Premier Rugby Sevens Eastern Conference Finals are set for today at 3 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Both men’s and women’s teams will be competing for a spot in the finals in Washington, D.C., next month. There will also be fan fest with food and live music an hour before the first match. Eight matches in total will be played. Root on Pittsburgh’s new rugby sevens’ team, The Pittsburgh Steeltoes. 510 W. Station Square Dr. (R.H.)
