Cool Picks brings you the best in Pittsburgh entertainment every day!
1) The holidays are a great time to take a guided or self-guided tour of the University of Pittsburgh’s Nationality Rooms in the Cathedral of Learning. Through touring and exploring the Nationality Rooms you get a deeper look into the culture and customs of the many countries that make up the heritage of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County’s past, present and future. Each room’s design and adornments are representative of their country’s craftsmanship and culture. For more information please visit http://www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu/tours.
2) With the Steelers eliminated from post season play, we’re trying to make the reality of it a little easier with some game day specials. All Star Sports Bar & Grill (Heritage Square, 6302 Robinson Town Centre Blvd.) offers Miller Lite Pints $2.75 , BBQ Pulled Pork or Cheeseburgers Sliders $4.99. At Downey’s House (6080 Steubenville Pike, West Way Shoppes, Robinson Township) $2.50 bottles of Coors Light, $4 small cheese pizzas and after every game there’s a special giveaway.
3) Stay in the holiday spirit by visiting the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. There you’ll see the Neapolitan Presepio: one of the finest collections of nativity figurines. Handcrafted by Italian artisans between the years 1700 and 1830. While there you’ll also enjoy Carnegie Trees: 2012: Inspired by the World’s Fairs, seven 20-ft Colorado spruce trees adorned with handcrafted ornaments that highlight art, culture and science. Noon to 5 p.m. 4400 Forbes Ave. Oakland.
4) Penguins Pond is open at the new Highmark Stadium at Station Square. Skate with a fantastic view of downtown Pittsburgh and the three rivers. Skate rental available. 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. 125 W. Station Square Dr.
