1) Zero Dark Thirty, the movie detailing the CIA’s tracking and Navy SEALs killing of America’s No. 1 enemy, Osama bin Laden, is screening at local theaters. Part documentary, part fictionalized drama, the movie is the latest from director/producer Kathryn Bigelow, who’s other war movie The Hurt Locker, was also a big success. Zero Dark Thirty has garnered 5 Academy Award nominations including one for “Best Picture.” Cast includes Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton and Kyle Chandler (the football coach in the TV series Friday Night Lights).
2) Rock/jam-band Moe is in town tonight at Stage AE. The band formed when they were students at the University of Buffalo (SUNY) in 1989. Moe has opened for the Allman Brothers, The Who and performed at Bonnaroo music festival 5 times in the event’s 10 year history. Doors open 7 p.m. North Shore.
3) Director Quentin Tarantino’s (who just won the Golden Globe Award for Best Director) latest epic, Django Unchained, opened hot at the cineplexes over the holidays. The film stars Jamie Foxx as an escaped slave in the pre-war South. If his character helps a bounty hunter track down the murderous Brittle Brothers he will win his freedom. Also starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson.
4) Looking to enjoy tasty vegan and vegetarian dishes. Some notable vegetarian restaurants include: Quiet Storm: Vegetarian + Vegan Cafe (5430 Penn Ave., Friendship), The Zenith: Vegetarian Cafe*Art Gallery*Antique Goldmine (86 S. 26th St., South Side)and East End Food Co-op Cafe (7516 Meade St., North Point Breeze). Also, most Chinese and Indian restaurants offer a nice assortment of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
