Byham Hosts Josh Ritter (CP’s Mon. 5/20/13)

1) Singer-songwriter and guitarist Josh Ritter is touring in support of his latest album The Beast in its Tracks.  After the breakup of his marriage Ritter found that he had material for a lot of interesting songs including “Joy to You Baby,” “Hopeful” and “New Lover.”  He’ll be playing with his Royal City Band. On “New Lover” Ritter’s vocal style is reminiscent of  Paul Simon’s post 1970’s sound. He counts among his many influences Bob Dylan. 8 p.m. Byham Theater, 101 6th St., Cultural District.

2) Now playing at Carnegie Science Center is a lovely new IMAX film called Flight of the Butterflies. The movie documents the Monarch butterflies incredible cross-continent migration and their relationship to people throughout the generations. 12:15 p.m. Rangos Omnimax Theater, One Allegheny Ave., North Shore.

3) Butterflies are free to fly and one of God’s most beautiful creatures. At Phipps Conservatory you can experience them live in the Butterfly Forest exhibit. Watch gorgeous Monarchs and Zebra Longwings butterflies emerge from their chrysalises to flutter their little wings in an aerobatic dance among cheerful, bug-friendly flowers and plants. 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. One Schenley Park, Oakland.

4) Savoy Restaurant’s Savoy Jazz Monday’s continues tonight with host band Roger Humphries Trio and featured musician Eric Johnson, jazz guitarist. 5 – 9 p.m. No cover. 2623 Penn Ave., Strip District.
