1) Brooklyn indie-rock band Grizzly Bear takes the stage tonight at Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland. Their music has been described as a blend of folk, psychedelic and rock infused with vocal harmonies. Grizzly Bear is touring in support of their fourth album Shields. Special guest is Owen Pallett. 8 p.m. 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
2) Little Gem, the polished new production from City Theatre, opens tonight. The play written by Elaine Murphy and directed by Kimberly Senior, chronicles the lives of three generations of Irish women, in the same family, as they search for meaning and pleasure during one incredible year. Little Gem’s women are portrayed by Hayley Nielsen (Amber), Cary Anne Spear (Kay) and Robin Walsh (Lorraine). 5:30 p.m. Lester Hamburg Studio. 1300 Bingham St., South Side.
3) Manor at Midnight, a fun film series that starts as the clock strikes midnight every Saturday at the Manor Theatre, features Night of the Living Dead. The film was directed and co-written by CMU grad George Romero and shot mainly in Evans City (north of Pittsburgh). Night of the Living Dead had a great line spoken teasingly by the brother to his sister when she saw an odd man when they were visiting a family grave in the cemetery, “They’re coming to get you Barbara.” The brother was promptly killed by the strange man who was actually a zombie (note to brothers, don’t tease your sisters or you could be killed by Zombies). Local horror movie host extraordinaire, “Chilly Billy” Cardille had an appearance in the movie as a news reporter. When the film debuted in 1968 it revived the zombie movie genre and started a new run of Pittsburgh film shoots that continues today. This screening will be done in a different manner, with no sound and four members of the Berklee School of Music playing haunting music live. There will be subtitles. Come if you dare. Unrated. 1729 Murray Ave., Squirrel Hill.
4) The Islanders are in the ‘burg to take on the Peninsulas (Pittsburgh Penguins) for control of a small patch of land in front of their respective hockey goals. 1 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave. , Uptown.
