Mr. Smalls Hosts Band Minus the Bear (CPs Tues. 10/22/13)

1) Seattle indie-rock band Minus the Bear is in the ‘Burgh tonight for a concert at Mr. Smalls Funhouse. The band features a power pop-driven sound with signature guitar work, harmonic vocals, a rhythmic beat, and some elements of electronica. Special guests are INVSN and Slow Bird. 8 p.m. 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale.

2)  Thunderbird Café’s Space Exchange series, which explores progressive jazz in relation to other musical genres, continues tonight with the newly formed The Chris Parker Trio. Guitarist Chris Parker is joined by bassist Matt Booth and drummer David Throckmorton. 9 p.m. No cover. 4023 Butler St., Lawrenceville.

3) At Theater Square tonight, New View Trio is the featured performer at this week’s Tuesday night jazz series at the Backstage Bar. No cover. 5 p.m. 655 Penn Ave., Cultural District.

4) Celli Dancing will be happening at Mullaney’s Harp & Fiddle. This is participatory, which means, as their Web site says, “Even on your first Tuesday night, you will dance.” The evening starts at 7:15 p.m. with lessons for beginners, then live music and dancing continue from 8 – 10 p.m. 2329 Penn Ave., Strip District.
