1) Who says competing boy-band singer/songwriters can’t get along? Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter and New Kids on the Block’s Jordan Knight have teamed up on an album, Nick & Knight. If the two bands were ever to completely join together, what would they call themselves—Boys on the Block? New Kids on the Backstreet? Even if that doesn’t happen, this show is a good way to experience two great entertainers. 8 p.m. Byham Theater, 101 Sixth St., Cultural District.
2) The Pirates are in a one game wild-card playoff match today against the San Francisco Giants to determine who gets to continue in the National League playoffs. It’ll either be sudden victory or sudden death for our Buccos, let’s hope for the former! 8:07 p.m. PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.
3) Tusk is now showing in local theaters. From the always unusual mind of Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) comes this singular “dramedy” about a man (Justin Long) who is kidnapped and tortured into becoming a walrus. Yes, a walrus. Also starring Haley Joel Osment and Johnny Depp. Check Fandango for screens and times.
4) After this summer’s Jason Aldean and Toby Keith concerts, our “Southern” (PA) town of Pittsburgh is in the midst of a slack country music period. What’s a country fan to do? Don’t be a “hayseed.” Get on over to Peter’s Pub for country music night with DJ JB. Check out their great specials: $5.50 fish bowls, $7.50 Smirnoff fish bowls, $2 Yuengling bottles (10 p.m. – midnight), and $5.50 Bud Lt. pitchers (7 p.m. to close). If you want to add some protein to the picture, try the $5 sandwiches ( 5 – 10 p.m.). Plus, unlike the summer country concerts, they’ll clean up and bag your trash. 116 Oakland Ave., Oakland.
