1) The rising, 7-3 Pitt Panthers football team, fresh off of a victorious road trip against the Duke Blue Devils, take on the Louisville Cardinals. There is an exciting new offensive package emerging with quarterback Nate Peterman and defensive back Jordan Whitehead. It’s fun to see Peterman hand the ball off to Whitehead who uses his blazing speed to turn the outside corner of the defense. Get down there and cheer on the team, they’ve been working hard. Kickoff is at 3:45 p.m. Heinz Field, 100 Art Rooney Ave., North Shore.
2) The Pens, with an inspired performance from star player Evgeni Malkin, beat the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night and face off against the San Jose Sharks in a 7 p.m. game tonight at the Consol Energy Center. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown.
3) When A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, won last year’s Tony Award for Best Musical, it wasn’t the first time the underlying story has been made into a hit. Aficionados of old movies will recall the 1949 comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, with Alec Guinness playing eight roles and getting bumped off in most of them. That movie and the modern musical are derived from the same obscure novel, Israel Rank: Autobiography of a Criminal—but while literary genealogy can be fun, the offspring are funnier. A Gentleman’s Guide has been pronounced seriously humorous. It’s about a distant relative of an English earl who plots to ascend to the earldom by eliminating the closer kin. Over the course of his quest, he pretends to be gay (“It’s Better with a Man”), dispatches people with weapons ranging from a barbell to a swarm of bees, and much more. Please don’t try any of this at home; just watch the national touring company act it out. 2 and 8 p.m. Performances through tomorrow. Benedum Center, 237 7th Ave., Cultural District. (MV)
