The history of the world is full of well documented con men (and women). Although disastrous for their marks, it can also be very entertaining to watch the con. Such is the case with The Music Man. Professor Harold Hill is a con man who promises instruments, uniforms, and lessons for a band that he is forming and training. Of course, payment is in advance, and then he usually skips town with the money and nothing that he promised delivered. That is until he pulls into River City, Iowa. The production features a lot of laughs and top musical numbers including “Seventy-Six Trombones.” In 1957 The Music Man won 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson. Story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. In this touring production at Pittsburgh CLO, Charles Esten is Harold Hill and Nikki Renée Daniels as Marian Paroo. 7:30 p.m. Runs through July 14. Benedum Center, 237 7th St., Cultural District.
